Tyler Simpson multi media final

Evidence suggests that it is a food allergy that caused Horan’s death.
According to a press release issue by Detective Sgt. Darren Annis of the Vermont State Police State. Horan was reported by family to have a severe specific food allergy and may have accidentally ingested an item of food causing a fatal allergic reaction.
According to the police report.  Police received a call at 11:20 PM  on Sunday of a man  who had collapsed from an allergic reaction in Lyndonville.
EMS arrived and tried to resuscitate Horan, however their attempts were unsuccessful, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday  Detective Sgt. Darren Annis told The Critic that there was evidence of drug and alcohol use. A  second call to the same detective revealed that evidence of drug and alcohol use was omitted from the police report given that an official cause of death has not been  determined.
The Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death.
A toxicology  report must be completed in order to determine an official cause of death.
The results should be completed within six to eight weeks.  However, the result of the autopsy will not be available to the public but Detective Sgt. Darren Annis plans to issue a press release with the official cause of death.

Horan was in Lyndonville visiting friends at the time of the incident.

Synopsis

I’m going to profile a band by the name of Monty's Lobster they are a band from Millis Massachusetts. One of the members of the band is a student at Lyndon State College.

The band formed last summer and they’ve already had several performances mostly at community events and fairs. However they have a big break coming up they were booked at the hard rock cafĂ© in Boston. I plan on taking photos of the Lyndon student-playing guitar. I also plan on interviewing him and playing some of their music in my audio slideshow.

This one is good example of when an audio slideshow is a better storytelling method than just video. the reason is a video might have take away from the message.

EB-5 on the rise

According the US Citizenship and Immigration Services was EB-5 was a law passed by Congress in 1990 to stimulate the economy.

There are 10,000 EB-5 immigrant visas available annually through the EB-5 program.  The EB-5 program consists of two options to gain citizenship. Both of this option requires either a $500,000 or a 1,000,000-dollar investment depending on the area where the investment is made.  In addition any new commercial investment must employ 10 full time employees

Acquiring lawful permanent residence (“Green Card”) through the EB-5 category is a three step self-petitioning process. The target case processing time is five months for Forms I-526 and I-829.

  • First, a successful applicant must obtain approval of his or her Petition for an Alien Entrepreneur (Form I-526).
  • Second, he or she must either file an I-485 application to adjust status to lawful permanent resident, or apply for an immigrant visa at a U.S.consulate or embassy outside of the United States. The EB-5 applicant (and their derivative family members) is granted conditional permanent residence for a two year period upon the approval of the I-485 application or upon entry into the United States with an EB-5 immigrant visa.
  • Third, a Form I-829 Petition by an Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions must be filed 90 days prior to the two year anniversary of the granting of the EB-5 applicant’s conditional Green Card. If this petition is approved by USCIS then the EB-5 applicant will be issued a new Green Card without any further conditions attached to it, and will be allowed to permanently live and work in the United States.”

According to data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services the approval rating for I-829 forms have increased from 62 percent in fiscal year 2005 to 83 percent in fiscal year 2011.

Title 9 at LSC

In 1972 President Richard Nixon signed Title nine into law.

Title nine was an historic executive order yet the rights it provides to students is not fully understood by many students.

According to the University of Southern California Office Of Sexual Harassment.
Title IX forbids sex discrimination in all university student services and academic programs including, but not limited to, admissions, financial aid, academic advising, housing, athletics, recreational services, college residential life programs, health services, counseling and psychological services

Title nine not only applies to schools but also government entities as well as private employers that receives  federal funding.

Every school that receives federal funding is required to have a Title nine coordinator on campus. This person is responsible for making sure the school compiles with Title. On the Lyndon State College campus that person is Jonathan Davis.

This person must make sure that sexual incidents of sexual harassment are properly investigated.

I recently spoke with Davis about his role as Title nine coordinator.
